My boyfriend and I, both in our 30's, played this on the beach for hours..we even had a stranger, who was sitting nearby with his friends and coveting our game, come and ask to play. It's so easy to whip out and start playing and it gets your mind working. Boggle rules. However, this particular set is way over-priced considering I also paid shipping. It's cheap and plastic and the letters don't fall neatly into the grooves. It's worth about 5 bucks but I paid over 20. Still, until the plastic cracks, I'm getting a lot of use out of it and making everyone at the beach jealous.

Customer Review: is teaching my son balance, coordination, and independence

My husband and I purchased this bike for our son when he was about 2 1/2. His feet barely reached the pedals, so we helped him until he got big enough. Now he's 3, his feet reach the pedals, and every couple of days we go for a walk, and he rides his tricycle. He is not a fast kid, so he stays right next to us, and occasionally he does start to tip over, but we usually catch him in time to keep him from getting hurt. He climbs right back on and we go again. We bought a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads at the same time that we purchased this tricycle, and he wears them EVERY TIME. He is also always within reach when he's on the tricycle.



I have read many one star reviews, and I would agree with them that your child has to be just the right size to ride the bike--perhaps being taller and heavier makes it harder to stay upright, thanks to inertia and wind resistance. I can also see that if your child is more physically inclined and likes to go fast, this would not be the tricycle for you--it's more like a cadillac than a mustang. However, it's been a good, safe tricycle for my son, and has provided him with hours of learning and fun.



One mechanical issue is the bell: the screws have loosened and it hangs beneath the handlebars. This could be more an indicator of my husband's procrastination than anything else, though.

i would estimate that this would be perfect for an LCD monitor up to about 21". above that, considering that this thing is 100% plastic, the bottom support beam would probably crack if the monitor tilted too far to either side.



It gets the job done for me because all i really wanted was something to lift my monitor about 7" without having to use a shoebox or phonebooks. and now i also have some storage space for my extra desk junk.

I have built Arts and Crafts style furniture for many years and have always loved the Greene and Greene style. This book gives some history and background on the style but it's real value is in the very detailed explanations of how to execute the details Greene and Greene. It's practical and well written. Where jigs are necessary they are described and photographed in detail. I have now purchased the plans for the author's bedside table and plan on making that when I get the half dozen pieces I am working on now finished. A fun book even if you never build anything.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to doing a piece in the Greene & Greene style. Peart makes gorgeous furniture, and his treatment of design and construction of G&G stuff is clear, intelligent, and sensitive.

The first section, on the history of Greene and Greene, is perhaps less compelling. I read it with interest, because it's the first book I've read on G&G, but Peart's strengths as a writer are more in the direction of design and technique than in biography. Readers most interested in biography and history might want to look elsewhere.

This is not a serious drawback: the book delivers what the title promises--design elements for the workshop. It does this so well that I ask, with another reviewer, when volume two is coming out.

Customer Review: Very effective sunblocker

This umbrella was exactly what I needed this summer in the blaring heat of Southern California. I've used regular umbrellas and cute parasols before, and the sun always managed to penetrate them. But not with this anti-UV umbrella. It is highly effective in blocking out the sun and keeping me somewhat cooler, just as it's advertised.



The only negative is the size. I wish it were wider from one end to the other for better coverage. At the same time, it might feel too bulky or cumbersome if it were wider. If you are a somewhat wide/large person, you may want to get an umbrella that's wider than 15" radius for better coverage.

Customer Review: good brolly

Given the very fluctuating weather at the mo' the eclipse works well in most situations. Wind, rain and sun seem all to be taken in it's stride. My only gripe is that when overcast and it is raining the sun block makes you feel like you are literally under a cloud.

However for the job in hand (which is protecting baby when in sling), it is very effective. My partner doesn't like to hold it when it is sunny though, but through no fault of the eclipse, just cos he's a bloke.

We got this crib because our son refused to sleep in two of the other "pack and play" style cribs. Fortunately, he took right to this one on the road! Maybe it's because it looks and feels more like his "real" crib.



It is a bit bulky so fortunately our vehicle can handle it (lies flat in the back); otherwise, it would be difficult to use. The mattress is a little flimsy. Overall, though, we are pleased with the quality.

Customer Review: Great for small spaces

This crib was a lifesaver for us! We live in a small condo and didn't have room for a full-size crib. This was the PERFECT solution. Because it's made of wood, it looks much classier than the other alternatives we considered (which were made of white plastic tubing or were pack-and-plays). It also conforms to all the safety standards for portable cribs.



It was simple to assemble, folds very flat, and can easily roll through doorways. The platform is easy to switch from the upper to the lower position (but this design makes it impossible to put a skirt on the crib unless you are able to sew your own with openings for the levers and the parts of the platform that protrude through the slats). Only one side goes up and down, and it does take two hands to do that... but at 5 feet 5 inches tall I can easily reach in and out without having to raise or lower the side.



It differs from a standard size crib mainly in that it is not as long, so I don't anticipate that our daughter will be able to climb out of it any earlier than she would a standard size crib. We also put my friends' two year old (who is at the 90th percentile for height) into this crib once, and he fit in it just fine.



Like other reviewers, we did buy a two inch portable crib mattress (38 x 24 inches) to replace the thinner mattress that came with the crib. We love the crib so much, however, that this extra expense was no big deal. Of note, two inches is the thickest mattress that is considered safe for this crib.



I don't think this crib would be practical for families looking for something to take in the car on trips, but it's great for those without room for the full-size version or who want something that can be set up and then stored away again quickly (i.e. at Grandma's house).

American furniture are rare to find outside America and they are highly priced because of their rarity they fetch high price for the collectors. There is not much difference in their styles and their designs and decorations from that of the European one. The difference between the Europe and the American is that the American used the local woods like apple, cherry, and maple besides the walnut and the mahogany.

VERY little American furniture is to be seen outside the United States, and the majority of English and Continental museums, large and small, show none whatsoever. The reader (U.S. or British) may be interested to know how it differs from the European. Occasionally, pieces are found in English homes, whence they may have been brought back by returned settlers, and if offered by auction it is found they fetch high prices in comparison with similar English articles. This higher valuation is justified by the fact that old American furniture is rarer than English, much of it is already in museums in the United States, and there is a large number of keen collectors to compete for every piece.

Seventeenth-century American furniture resembles that made in England some fifty years earlier, and this lag in time continued to be present through most of the eighteenth century. However, by 1800 or so, with improved conditions in the new country and better shipping facilities across the Atlantic, there was very little difference between the interior of a fashionable mansion in New York and one in London. As the early settlers in New England were from the British Isles it would be expected that the furniture they made was like that of their homeland as they remembered it. So it was, but local variations occurred very soon. For instance, the tall cane-backed Jacobean chair was copied continually in America and remained popular throughout the eighteenth century, but instead of the back being filled with a panel of caning often it was given a series of shaped uprights and became the 'banister-back' chair.

Similarly, when mahogany became fashionable, English-style straight-fronted kneehole desks and chests were made in Newport, Rhode Island, with what is termed a 'block front; a type of break-front of serpentine shape, with one or more of the flat 'blocks' carved with a sunray or shell. Such variations on the designs from London became popular in the locality where they were made, but they did not spread far. The various districts that had been colonized each had their specialty, but the most notable was certainly the furniture made in Philadelphia. Basically of mid-eighteenth-century English design, these chests, tables, chairs and other pieces were ornamented with carving and fretwork in a style that differentiates them clearly from London work.

Later, in the first half of the nineteenth century, an American version of Sheraton furniture was very popular. The most famous examples were the work of Duncan Phyfe, who had emigrated from Scotland, and whose name is probably the best known of that of any American cabinet-maker. Born in 1768, he died in 1854.

Apart from pieces made in the cities, American collectors eagerly seek old country-made furniture, and there is great interest in Windsor chairs and similar pieces, which resemble closely their European originals. Eighteenth-century German settlers in eastern Pennsylvania made versions of their home furnishing known as 'Pennsylvania German' or 'Pennsylvania Dutch1 mainly in light-colored fruit woods, and these also are very popular in the United States.

One noticeable difference in cabinet making on both sides of the Atlantic is in the timbers that were used. Much furniture was made in America from local woods: such as apple, cherry, and maple. Walnut remained in use in some districts long after mahogany had become fashionable elsewhere, and in Pennsylvania it was the principal wood until about 1850. Thus, one finds a piece of American furniture in a recognizable rendering of the Chippendale style, but instead of being made from mahogany, as would be expected, it is in walnut, or even cherry wood. Certain pieces of furniture are named differently in America from what they are in England. Four of the most important are:

Lowboy:
Lowboy is a modern word describing what is called in England a dressing table; a low table fitted with drawers and rose on legs.
Highboy: a lowboy with, in addition, a chest of drawers on top.

Bureau:
It is described in England as a chest of drawers: the English bureau or writing desk is known in America as a 'slant-front desk'.

Secretary:
It is called in England a bureau-bookcase: a sloping-front writing desk with a bookcase above it
In addition to Duncan Phyfe, mentioned above, other important cabinet-makers are:
William Savery, of Philadelphia (1721 to 1787). John Townsend and his brother-in-law, John Goddard, of Newport, Rhode Island (both lived about 1730 to 1785).
John Cogswell, of Boston (about 1769 to 1818).

In the American furniture we can find a recognizable rendering of the Chippendale style, but instead of being made from mahogany, as would be expected, it is in walnut, or even cherry wood. And the other difference in American and European is their naming styles. The American called dress table as 'lowboy' a chest of drawers as 'highboy' writing desk as 'slant-front desk', etc.

Customer Review: Very useful and very helpful

This book was a great introduction to how to build cabinets. Being an experienced person in woodworking, this book gave the guidance towards me taking on this project. As a previous review stated, I also found an error in the calculation table but after doing the calculation over and over again, it seemed to have the wrong calculation formula but is was indeed correct. I did though find an area that the publisher and the author should have covered that was overlooked. When assembling the doors the author states to assemble the rails and stiles with glue, drive a couple of 1/2 inch nails into the assembly and remove the clamps. After doing this, I discovered those nails while routing the outside edges with my round-over bit. So, I will in the future take extreme care to where I place those nails, assuring that they will not be found later. I also modified my wall cabinets by using 1/4 inch plywood for the tops and in some assemblies I found that using the pocket hole method better for attaching plywood to plywood, less splitting when the screw is at an angle.

Otherwise this book is an excellent source that gave me the confidence and courage to build my own cabinets, as I have them all built now, just waiting to stain and assemble them and install.

This book is well written, and easy to understand. The author gives you a solid understanding of the basics and some of the more advanced "how-tos" of cabinet making. I would recommend this book to people who have some knowledge of power tools and want to learn how to build kitchen cabinets.

Customer Review: additional adaptor may be needed

I haven't put this up yet. But it is sturdy and seems good.

Warning though if your TV isn't vesa standard(mounting hole patterns in the back of tv) then you will need an additional bracket adaptor. it costs $80 and they don't tell you that until you have ordered this one. With both combined it will be cheaper than the stores mounts but I would liked to have known ahead of time and ordered both together.

We purchased the Jumperoo for my 7 month old son. A friend of us had it and we liked the design, the quality of the plastic and toys. My son loves the Jumperoo. It took him a couple of hours to get the hand. He now spends 1-2 hours a day playing in it, freeing my wife to do other things in the house. The different materials, colors and sounds are really stimulating. He plays and jumps all the time. We've had the jumperoo for 3 weeks and my son is not getting tired it.



The only inconvenience of this model is that it is bulky even when disassembled.



Would definitely recommend it!

Customer Review: Safe and Fun!

Our daughter loves this jumparoo, it can hold her attention for hours on end. We dident think all of the toys were super exiting, however. The Tiger that is suposed to play peekaboo just did not impress. Other than that, this jumperoo has been an excellent activity center for our child.

This mobile isn't the loveliest to the adult eye, but my newborn adores it. When nothing else works to entertain her, she will watch and listen to this. In fact, some of her first gurgling and cooing was to this mobile. And it gives her parents a 15-minute break to shower, answer email, or eat! We love it.

Customer Review: very stimulating!

We bought this mobile for my daughter when she was 3 weeks old...it took a week or so for her to get used to it, but now it is one of her FAVORITE toys. We do not use this to settle her down for naptime, but rather start the mobile first thing in the AM (as a matter of fact, we'll walk into the nursery in the morning and she'll be sitting in her crib waving her arms and waiting for the mobile to start) OR during the afternoon when she has some extra energy. This mobile can entertain her for 30-45 minutes. She loves to kick the animals as they rotate on the mobile - great for hand-foot coordination development! Highly recommended!
